Joe Omega has worked for UC Berkeley Upward Bound and TRIO students since 1982. Over the years, Mr. Omega has worked for the program in several capacities including Activities Coordinator, Residential Advisor, Field Counselor and finally as Counseling Coordinator since 1986.

He was the first of eight children in his family to attend college earning his bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley. As an undergrad, he devoted much of his spare time volunteering in San Francisco’s Chinatown with Community Educational Services, tutoring middle and high school students and conducting recreational activities.

Mr. Omega has served as chapter president, chapter and association treasurer,and chairperson of the chapter Professional Development Seminar (PDS) and Student Leadership Conference for the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel (WESTOP), a regional TRIO association.

In his spare time, you'll find Joe with Julie, David and Emma, his family, going on family outings or just relaxing at home. Joe is an avid cook and a seasoned bar-b-que enthusiast, often whipping up tasty dishes like lumpia, pancit, steaks or ribs for friends and family.

Although he is an avid and “die hard:” 49er fan, he’ll never speak ill of his hometown Oakland Raiders.
