Thomas M. Nishi moved to the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles with his parents from Kemmerer, Wyoming and grew up there.  He attended Humboldt State, and earned a BA from UCLA.  After 10 years of work as a counselor and coordinator at the University of California, Santa Barbara Educational Opportunity Program; counseling patients in drug treatment; and owning an auto repair business, he entered the University of Hawai`i school of public health and earned a Master’s in Public Health degree.  He has counseled students in Upward Bound at the University of Hawai`i, Manoa, and at the University of Hawai`i, Hilo.  Mr. Nishi also worked with students at Michigan State University as coordinator for Asian American and Pacific Islander student affairs, with special education in the Hawai`i community college system, and with patients in the Mental Health system in Hawai`i.  Mr. Nishi combines 33 years of experience in education with 26 years experience in Ki-Aikido to assist students and families to successfully complete high school and enter college. He has been married for 22 years to his loving wife Pauline. His motto is “Serve the People”.
